Book editing

Kristin is a professional line editor, copyeditor, and proofreader with seven-plus years of editing experience. She recently topped up her editing skills with a “Professional Sequence in Editing” certificate from UC Berkeley extension. She has worked on everything from theses and dissertations to full-length manuscripts (both fiction and nonfiction), memoirs, and self-help books.
Manuscript assessment: developmental assessment of structure, pace, character development, scenes and overall cohesiveness of the story. (Fiction and commercial nonfiction only)
Copyediting: checking for clarity of meaning, consistency of tone, style, and flow, word usage, spelling and grammar, as well as light structural editorial feedback.
Proofreading: final-stage editing of mechanics, grammar, spelling, capitalization, missing words, proper spacing, etc, and consistency with relevant style guide for the publication.
Fees: fees depend on the quality of the writing (how much work is needed to get the writing project in top shape), the type of editing (line editing is the most labor-intensive, followed closely by copyediting), and the length of the manuscript (word count). Kristin’s hourly rates are based on her years of experience and are within industry standards. Hourly rates for short projects (10,000 words or less) are between €45 and €60 per hour. For larger projects, Kristin will come up with a project estimate.

English lessons

Kristin holds a Qualifi Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and has completed a Teaching Business English course from The TEFL Academy. She has taught English online for Air Traffic Control, Cambridge English C1 exam preparation, conversational English, and provided in-person B1-level English tutoring for exam preparation.
Lessons: Kristin is now offering personal walk-and-talk conversational English lessons. During a one-hour walk in the Schagen area, Kristin and her student will converse in English. Learning while walking can increase cognitive performance, thus enhancing your ability to improve your language acquisition. See the attached poster for pricing. T

Novelist

Kristin is a published author of two novels: Green (2013) and The Things We Said in Venice (2017). She has also written for magazines, newspapers, and websites in the US and the Netherlands. She is currently working on her third novel, an eco-Christmas romance, with a planned release date of October 2025. Her books are available on Amazon.
